We started with 80lbs of Jonathan apples trucked over fresh from Grand Junction, Colorado. Allie, Joe and I set aside the afternoon to work together turning them into applesauce.
I helped quarter and cook the apples. Allie's took turns with Joe, cranking the Victorio Strainer and filling the jars.

Joe was in charge of tasting to see if it was OK!

The jars had to be cooked to finish off the process... A friend of Allie's stopped by while we were working. She was amazed and said "Can you do that?" in response to "We are canning applesauce. "

We made 31 quarts of pretty pink applesauce, 2.5 quarts of apple juice, and saved a big bowl of apples to make apple crisp with Sunday. Come on over and have some with us.... we'll wait for you!

What fun! The pictures are great. It almost feels like being there. I love applesauce and wish I could take you up on the invitation.
Comment from Grandma: thanks for message and pictures ....canning was always great fun...I remember when I was a kid with all my brothers and sisters we canned every thing as it came along..we had a canning factory in our stake and we canned there ...on a stake basis, when I was in charge...often taking 30 cases home...in one evening...we paid the cannery and charged those that helped 25 cents extra per case ...sometimes we made a few dollars extra....so we had a small bank account.by the way .I sure liked your cute aprons....love you granny
I wish I could take you up on the invite too. I love homemade applesauce, and such a pretty pink . I also liked your aprons.
Doesn't it make you feel so good to hear the lids pop, and when you look at those bottles full of your efforts?
