Thanksgiving Day At Grandma's

Grandma shows off the cookie that I think Lily or Trish made for her. They were visiting her this morning. She can enjoy eating it now that she has a picture of it.

I missed that fact that her Bee Hive Home served Thanksgiving Dinner last Friday. She said that her neighbor had a turkey plate brought in by family. Then she said that she had a bowl of bean soup. I will see that she gets a turkey plate tomorrow. It made me smile. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Wish I was at Grandma's House Today

I am Thankful:
... to be alive
... to love
... and to be loved

My Sister

Some Good Memories!

Sharing a smile!

My big sister. My mentor.

A pretty teenager in her pedal pushers. She was up on fashion. We had some fun times on Hampton Avenue.

I remember her as highly intelligent and talented and beautiful. She was complex and interesting and sensitive. Even as a young child, she had well thought out opinions about life. She was selective in her choices in art and music, books, and friendships. She was a mentor as she taught me to look for more in my life. Thank you Beverly! I love you!

I remember Mom....

I remember Mom...

Making these dinners:
  • Chicken and dumplings (made with Bisquick)
  • Stuffed Green Peppers (Dad loved these)
  • Spaghettini with Green Sauce (I have the recipe)
Taking us to ballet and tap lessons with Bene' Arnold, then sometimes stopping at the Burger Chalet after for a special treat. (make your own burgers and sundaes)

Driving us to Ice Skating lessons at Hygeia Ice in Sugarhouse.

Sunbathing in the backyard to get a nice tan.

Sleeping late and me knowing not to disturb her.

Legacy of Artistic Talent from Mom

Mom (Beverly) showed a natural artistic talent from an early age. She left us a legacy of art and art appreciation. Many of her grandchildren have shown a similar talent. Here is a picture she drew of Patty when she was about eight.

Honoring Beverly

It is September, the month of my mother Beverly's birthday. I would like honor Mom this year by inviting you all think of some of your favorite Beverly memories and post them here, to Grandma's blog. It's been 22 years since she passed away, but little time goes by without my remembering her essence; her bright intellect, her creativity, her artistry, her love for her children, her strength, especially through her illness, and her honesty.

I love you, Mom.

Love,
Gwen

July Recreation Schedule for Highland Care Center

This is the July schedule for the recreational activities at the Highland Care Center. These are daily activities that Grandma can enjoy and benefit from. Even if Grandma is having some memory problems there are many things she can do because the ability is automatic. Doing these things are key to maintaining and improving her brain health. Please consider stopping by to take Grandma to some of these activities. (you can double-click on the calendar to enlarge it)
