I will never forget the day we got word of Walter's death. I was very young. We lived in an upstairs apartment on 1st west. I can still see my dad standing by the telephone and crumbling into sobs. I had never seen him cry before. Walter was only eighteen as I have been told. We were all very involved with what we called the war effort. I donated all my rubber toys to help the effort. We did without many things in order to support this cause. Losing Walter was the ultimate sacrifice. I remember him as a sweet, loving uncle in my life. Grandma Angela was devastated. Only her great faith kept her going. She had an experience, perhaps a dream, where Walter came to her front yard and said his good byes. Claudia, do you remember hearing of that event? Please share what you have been told of this. I know that you were too young to actually remember. It's with a heavy but appreciative heart that I do remember one of ours ...... Uncle Walter
